In the music video for the Oasis song, Cigarettes
and alcohol, there is a lot of close ups and mid shots of the band and in
particular the lead singer and the lead guitarist. This is done to let the
viewers of the video know who the band are and to promote the band. There is
also a lot of camera movement and this could be done to represent the movement
someone at a concert might experience. This effect is also given by the
frequent zooming in and out of the camera.
In terms of editing the pace cuts reflect the pace
of the song as there are short shots that change every second or so. There is a
black and white effect on the promo and this is probably done to give the video
and song a timeless feel. There is no continuity in the music video and this
means that the promo is just a montage of shots. There are a lot of shots in the promo and this
is conventional of a rock and roll video. The narrative of the video is
conventional as it is mainly performance and a few shots of the crowd and no
real narrative at all.
