Call Atlantis are an unsigned pop punk band from Birmingham, England and this already may be subverting the conventions of the pop punk genre as typically pop punk bands originate from America. The band do dress in a way that adheres to the conventions of pop punk. They wear typically darker clothing but also the lead singer has bright coloured hair. The lead singer of Call Atlantis is a woman and this is not uncommon in the pop punk genre where there are a lot of bands with female singers. Pop punk differs to normal rock in this way as there are very few rock bands with female members let alone singers. As the singer is female this may have an impact on the demographics of the target audience. This could lead to the audience being more female orientated. This could be because the songs are sang from the point of view of a female and this subverts conventions of rock as a broader genre.
The lyrical content of the song we plan to make a music promo for is fairly typical of the pop punk genre as it puts a lot of emphasis on emotions and relationships. This is a common theme in the pop punk genre as it appeals to the typical target audience of mid teens up to early twenties. The song lyrics in pop punk have to be something that the target audience can relate to. This is the opposite of pop and even rock that both have lyrics about things a typical audience member may never experience. Pop punk lyrics will often relate to things that their audience are experiencing or have already experienced such as adolescence and the breakdown of a relationship which is a theme that our song touches upon.
