To research what people wanted and liked from a music video we created a Vox Pop and asked people where they watched music videos, i.e YouTube, and what there favourite music video was and why? We asked people of ages ranging from 11-19. This is also useful to us as the demographic for the genre we chose is amongst this age range. This would also give us an idea about the difference between what 11 year olds want to see from music videos and what older teenagers want to see from music videos. The difference was not as striking as we thought as we found that often the most memorable videos are the perhaps the most silly and fun. Videos such as Psy's Gangnam Style were considered memorable.
Other popular theme choices for music promos were videos with a strong narrative and this reinforces the opinion that music videos are now becoming almost like short films. One person chose a video that is about standing up to bullies and this shows that our target audience like watching videos that focus on events and scenarios that they might have experienced.
We then asked them where and how they watch music videos and unsurprisingly almost all of them answered with YouTube. This shows just how big and important that the video sharing website is to the music industry. If your video is not on YouTube it is unlikely to be seen. Some of the people also said that they watched television music channels such as MTV and 4Music. This tells us that music channels are still as important to today's music listeners as they were when they were first around.
